More than 20 children have died from cough syrup in several states across India. Let's find out how many children in which states suffered the consequences.

Children have died in several states after consuming Coldrif cough syrup. In fact, these cases first surfaced in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where young children died after suffering kidney failure. The death toll has now gradually risen to 19. Since then, both governments and police have become increasingly concerned about the issue. Let's find out how many innocent lives have been claimed by this toxic cough syrup in which states?      

How many children have lost their lives so far?

Children have died in several states after consuming Coldrif's cough syrup. Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Rajendra Shukla stated that 20 children have lost their lives since September 7th in the Chhindwara, Betul, and Pandhurna districts of Madhya Pradesh. Chhindwara alone has the highest number of deaths, with 17. Four new deaths have also been reported in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, three children in Rajasthan have suffered the consequences of this toxic cough syrup. 

In which states is there fear of cough syrup?

Following the deaths caused by the syrup, health systems in all states have been put on alert. Fears are being felt in other states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Consequently, the sale of Coldrif cough syrup has been completely banned in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. Furthermore, strict action has been taken against the company that manufactures the syrup, and orders have been issued for drug testing. 

Why are people dying from cough syrup?

A dangerous chemical called diethylene glycol, present in this cough syrup given to young children, has claimed the lives of children. According to experts, this chemical directly damages the kidneys. It is a chemical used in the paint industry. Consuming it causes vomiting, diarrhea, and, after a few days, urinary retention, leading to kidney failure and death.

The government ordered an investigation. 

State governments have also taken action against all Coldrif company plants producing this deadly cough syrup, banning its sale and removing excess stocks from the market. Additionally, instructions have been issued to inspect the medicines manufactured at all of its plants.
