How did the rivalry between Team India and Bangladesh start on the cricket field, why did the friendship crack?

India vs Bangladesh Cricket Rivalry Reason: The Indian cricket team will play its first match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against neighboring country Bangladesh on 20 February in Dubai.

After Pakistan in Asian cricket, Bangladesh's rivalry with India has been the most talked about, but it was not so two decades ago. Earlier, the conflict between the two teams was not seen which is seen now, earlier there used to be friendship between the two. With the help of India, Bangladesh got the status of a full member country of the ICC in the year 2000 despite criticism. The then ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya became their voice in the ICC, while whenever voting took place in the ICC on cricket issues, the Bangladesh Cricket Board remained with the BCCI. Bangladesh played the first match of its Test history against India in Dhaka.

But as Bangladesh cricket progressed at the international level and players came in the team who had the X-factor on the world stage. Their passion to defeat India increased manifold.

The rivalry between the two teams started in the 2007 ODI World Cup, when Bangladesh upset India, due to which the Indian team was eliminated from the initial stage itself. But what happened in the 2015 World Cup changed a lot. By defeating England, the Bangladesh team reached the quarter-finals for the first time in the history of the ODI World Cup.

The emotions of Bangladeshi fans were overflowing, the Indian team was in front of them in the quarter-finals. In this match, Rubel Hussain came to bowl the 39th over for Bangladesh and he bowled a full-toss ball, on which Rohit Sharma played an aerial shot and Imrul Kayes caught the catch. Bangladeshi players and fans were celebrating but after the replay, the umpire declared it a no ball. Rohit scored a century which became the main reason for Bangladesh's defeat. After which the matter got worse when just before the 2016 Asia Cup final, a photoshopped picture of Taskin Ahmed holding the severed head of MS Dhoni went viral on social media.

After this, in the 2016 T20 World Cup, India defeated Bangladesh and knocked them out of the tournament, while at one time the Bangladesh team was close to victory. Then in 2018, Bangladesh was defeated in the final of the Nidahas Trophy. Now whenever both the teams face each other in any ICC tournament, a different passion is seen, especially from the Bangladesh team and fans.

Let us tell you that in the history of the Champions Trophy, both the teams have clashed only once, that too in the year 2017 on the ground of Birmingham where India defeated Bangladesh by 9 wickets.
