Rainfall in Himachal: Heavy rain has been continuing in Himachal's Sirmaur district for the past 36 hours. The rain has caused damage in many parts of the state. Rivers and streams are also in spate.

 

 

 

Incessant rainfall has severely disrupted normal life in Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's principal media advisor, Naresh Chauhan, stated that as of 10 a.m. on Friday (July 10), 124 roads in the state were closed. Furthermore, 442 power distribution transformers (DTRs) were down, disrupting power supply in many areas, and 19 drinking water schemes were also affected.

By the evening of July 9th, 75 roads, 67 DTRs, and 14 drinking water schemes were affected in the state. By the morning of July 10th, these numbers had risen to 124 roads, 442 DTRs, and 19 drinking water schemes, indicating that the situation has worsened due to the continuous rainfall.  

Many roads are closed in Shimla, and power supply is also affected.

According to a report from the Shimla District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), as of 11 a.m. Friday (July 10, 2026), all major national and state highways in the district are open amid incessant rain, but 27 connecting roads remain closed. Departmental teams are working to restore them.

Meanwhile, 67 power distribution transformers (DTRs) have failed, disrupting power supply in many areas. 53 drinking water schemes have been affected. The administration has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel due to the weather. They are also urged to follow local administration advisories.

Vehicles damaged due to falling stones in Shimla

In Vikasnagar, Shimla, two or three parked vehicles were damaged by falling rocks. However, no casualties were reported. Meanwhile, water entered the Sunni ITI campus. The administration is currently evacuating students to safer locations. Heavy rain damaged the retaining wall of a house in Brandli village (Narain) in the Rampur subdivision.

Heavy rain has been continuing in Sirmaur district for the past 36 hours. On Friday (July 10), a dilapidated building in the main area of ​​Nahan city suddenly collapsed due to the rain, sending a large amount of debris and rocks into the street. The debris also entered adjacent houses. The debris trapped many people in their homes. The accident occurred in the street directly behind the historic palace. According to locals, the historic palace had been in a very dilapidated condition for quite some time.

Markandeya River is also in spate in the Nahan area.

However, the palace had been undergoing continuous repair work for the past few months. Upon receiving information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma, SDM Rajiv Sankhyan, and local MLA Ajay Solanki arrived at the scene and immediately began relief and rescue operations. After extensive efforts, all the people were safely evacuated. Furthermore, the Markandeya River, which runs along the Nahan area, is in spate. A landslide near the Khajurna bridge on NH Chandigarh Ponta also caused a significant traffic jam after a tree fell.
