- Grated jaggery – 1 cup
- Ghee – 2 tablespoons
- Semolina (suji) – ½ cup
- Desiccated coconut – ¼ cup
- Mawa (khoya) – ½ cup (optional)
- Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
- Almonds and cashews – chopped as desired
- Water – 2 to 3 tablespoons
Step-by-Step Recipe to Make Gud ki Mithai
1. Roast the semolina
Heat ghee in a pan over low flame.
Add semolina and roast it gently until it turns light golden and releases a pleasant aroma.
When the suji starts leaving the sides and becomes fragrant, transfer it to a plate and let it cool.
2. Melt the jaggery
In the same pan, add 2–3 tablespoons of water and the grated jaggery.
Heat on low flame until the jaggery melts completely. Do not overboil; the goal is to form a smooth, slightly thick syrup-like mixture.
3. Add mawa and combine the ingredients
Once the jaggery syrup is ready, mix in the mawa and stir continuously until it blends well.
Now add the roasted semolina and desiccated coconut.
Keep mixing and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens slightly and begins to bind.
4. Add flavour and dry fruits
Sprinkle cardamom powder for aroma and add chopped almonds and cashews.
You can also add pistachios if you prefer.
Mix everything well and turn off the flame.
5. Set the mithai
Grease a tray or plate with ghee and pour the mixture into it.
Spread it evenly with a spoon and sprinkle extra dry fruits on top.
Let it set for about 20–25 minutes.
6. Cut and store
Once firmly set, cut it into squares, diamonds, or any shape you like.
