Google Maps: Google Maps has brought another major change for its users. Now, users will be able to take the help of Gemini AI even while walking and cycling. Previously, Google has provided hands-free communication based on Gemini for driving, public transport, and two-wheeler navigation, and now this smart feature is being made available for pedestrians and cyclists as well.
This is how you will get Gemini's support while on the go.
When you start navigation for a location in Google Maps in walk or cycling mode, you can activate the AI by tapping the Gemini icon in the top right of the screen. Alternatively, Gemini can also be summoned by saying "Hey Google," eliminating the need to touch the phone.
Will work as a personal tour guide
According to Google, Gemini will now act as your personal walking tour guide. You can ask it what area you're in or what good restaurants are nearby. In response, Gemini will provide information about places along your route and highlight nearby landmarks, making your trip even more interesting.
Even more beneficial for cyclists
Gemini provides completely hands-free assistance while cycling, so you don't have to take your mind off the road. You can ask it for your estimated arrival time, get information about your next meeting, or send a message. Gemini will automatically send the message, eliminating the need to take out your phone.
Improvements in both safety and convenience
The biggest advantage of this new feature is that it eliminates the need to unlock the phone while on the go. This not only simplifies work but also reduces the risk of accidents by keeping the user focused on the road.
Gemini replaces old voice commands.
Google Maps is now replacing the old voice commands of Google Maps. It can also gather information from other connected Google services. Users can also ask it for trip-related information like parking, nearby restaurants, EV charging stations, and petrol pumps.
Easy route will be available through landmark
Google has added another new feature where directions will now be given using nearby landmarks instead of meters. For example, instead of saying "Turn left after 100 meters," it will now say "Turn right after the petrol pump." However, this feature is not yet available in every country.
Rollout started on Android and iOS
This new Gemini-based walking and cycling feature in Google Maps is rolling out gradually to all regions where Gemini is available. Both Android and iOS users will soon be able to take advantage of this smart update.
