Can buying sweets on Diwali prove costly?
During Diwali, business increases at sweet shops, confectioners, hotels, and restaurants. Consumption of commercial LPG cylinders may also increase during this time. Therefore, the increase in gas prices impacts businesses' costs. In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder was increased by ₹62.50 to ₹2,810 in early October. In Kolkata, the price is ₹2,954 and in Patna, it is ₹3,100.50.
This doesn't mean that the prices of sweets or all other food items will rise immediately. Prices are also affected by raw materials, milk, sugar, oil, labor, and other expenses incurred by shopkeepers. However, the increase in gas prices could put pressure on businesses.
When do LPG prices change every month?
Oil companies typically review LPG cylinder prices on the first of every month. Domestic and commercial cylinder prices are set separately. Therefore, a rise in the price of commercial cylinders does not necessarily mean that domestic cylinder prices will also increase at the same time.
