FIFA World Cup 2026

Brazil vs Norway: Norway defeated Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16 match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and secured a place in the quarter-finals. With this defeat, Brazil's wait for winning the World Cup title since 2002 got longer. In this match, most eyes were on Brazil's Neymar and Norway's Erling Haaland. Both of them were the biggest stars of their respective teams in FIFA . Brazil had high hopes from Neymar, while Norway had its eyes on Haaland. Interestingly, the result of the match was also decided by the goals of these two players.

Haaland became the hero of Norway's victory.

Neither team scored in the first half. Erling Haaland then gave Norway the lead in the second half. He scored the first goal in the 79th minute. Then, in the 90th minute, Haaland added his second. These two goals put Brazil in a difficult position and laid a strong foundation for Norway's victory.

Even Neymar's goal failed to save Brazil.

Neymar did score a goal in extra time to make it 2-1, but it wasn't enough to secure Brazil a draw or advance to the quarterfinals. This defeat ended Brazil's campaign in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Brazil's biggest challenge

Since last winning the World Cup in 2002, Brazil has played seven World Cup knockout matches, losing each time to a European team. Before losing to Norway in the 2026 round of 16, Brazil was eliminated from the tournament by Croatia in the 2022 quarter-finals, Belgium in the 2018 quarter-finals, the Netherlands and Germany in 2014, the Netherlands in the 2010 quarter-finals, and France in the 2006 quarter-finals.
