Vote counting is currently underway. People are closely monitoring the trends and updates. The question now arises: who counts your votes? As the Assembly election results arrive, let us explain who is counting your votes and how much they are paid for this work.

Who does the counting?

In India, the counting of votes is conducted under the supervision of a Returning Officer (RO) appointed by the Election Commission of India. The Returning Officer, along with Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Counting Supervisors, Counting Assistants, and Micro Observers, complete the counting process. The Returning Officer (RO) is usually the District Magistrate (DM) or a senior administrative officer (IAS/IPS). They are responsible for counting of votes.
