West Bengal Election 2026: Re-polling will be held at all polling stations in one assembly constituency in West Bengal. However, this voting is scheduled for May 21st. The election results for the state's 293 seats will be announced on May 4th.

Important news is emerging regarding the West Bengal elections. Voting will be held again at all polling stations in the Falta Assembly constituency. This means that election results will be declared on May 4th for all 293 seats in the state except the Falta constituency. The Falta Assembly constituency results will now be announced on May 24th. It is being reported that the Election Commission's action was taken following allegations of tape tampering with EVMs.
The Election Commission stated in its order that re-polling will be conducted at all 285 polling stations, including auxiliary polling stations. Re-polling will be conducted at all polling stations on May 21, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Counting of votes will take place on May 24, 2026. The Election Commission has taken this action because serious electoral crimes and attempts to disrupt the democratic process were reported at polling stations in this assembly constituency.
BJP had alleged that the party's election symbol was covered with tape.
On April 29th, while voting was underway in Falta, shocking news emerged from Falta. In this assembly constituency, the BJP alleged that the BJP's election symbol, the lotus, was being covered with tape on EVMs at some booths. The Election Commission was asked to intervene immediately in this matter.
However, security was beefed up in the Falta assembly constituency following reports of clashes and disturbances. There were complaints of clashes and EVMs being taped at some booths. Paramilitary patrols and booth monitoring were then increased, leading the BJP to level serious allegations against the TMC. CAPF personnel were regularly visiting booths and making announcements. Additionally, the movement of vehicles with sirens and additional personnel was also increased in Falta at that time.
Re-voting took place at these polling booths on May 2.
Earlier on Saturday, May 2, re-polling took place at 15 polling stations in two assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas district. As of 5 p.m., the average voter turnout at the 15 booths was 86.90 percent. Voter turnout at 11 polling stations in the Magrahat (West) Assembly constituency was 86.11 percent. Voter turnout at four booths in the Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency was 87.60 percent. Official figures for the final voter turnout may be released late Saturday night or Sunday morning.
In Magrahat West, re-polling was held at booth numbers 46, 126, 127, 128, 142, 214, 215, 216, 230, 231, and 232. Re-polling was also held at booth numbers 117, 179, 194, and 243 in the Diamond Harbour constituency .
For the first time in the history of the country, so much voting took place
Previously, the two phases of the West Bengal Assembly elections, held on April 23 and April 29, saw record voter turnout. The average voter turnout in both phases reached 93 percent, reportedly the highest in the state since independence. Tripura held the previous record for the highest voter turnout nationwide. In the 2013 Assembly elections, voter turnout was 91.82 percent.
