Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated to a boiling point — and the impact is now being felt on the cricket field. In a chilling development, a drone attack reportedly struck the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the venue for Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches. The stadium sustained structural damage, sending panic across the cricketing world and casting serious doubts over the continuation of the tournament.
Drone Hits Stadium Hosting PSL Match
As per viral footage and Pakistani media, an Indian drone allegedly targeted the Rawalpindi Stadium ahead of the much-anticipated clash between David Warner-led Karachi Kings and Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi scheduled for 8:00 PM on May 8. The stadium, a key PSL venue, was hosting its 27th match of the season.
"An Indian drone has hit Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The stadium is hosting the PSL tournament…" tweeted Pakistani journalist Ihtisham Ul Haq, attaching a video showing alleged damage.
Foreign Players on Edge
The incident has sparked major security concerns, especially with multiple foreign players participating. Karachi Kings feature international stars such as David Warner, James Vince, and Tim Seifert, while Peshawar Zalmi boasts the likes of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Luke Wood, and Alzarri Joseph.
The presence of high-profile international cricketers has intensified security anxieties. According to sources, several England players have reached out to their national board, requesting evacuation amid the deteriorating situation.
Multan Sultans Players Want Out
With Multan Sultans already out of playoff contention, their foreign stars — including David Willey and Chris Jordan — have reportedly expressed a desire to leave Pakistan immediately. While the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) have not yet issued a directive to withdraw players, the UK government is closely monitoring the situation.
Will PSL Be Suspended?
Despite the alarming situation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to announce an official decision regarding suspension of the PSL. However, sources suggest that an emergency meeting is underway, and a decision could come soon, especially if the security environment deteriorates further.
