In today's era of digital and online banking, almost everyone has an ATM or debit card. We use them for shopping and withdrawals. However, when a new card expires or becomes damaged, we often throw the old debit card in the trash without thinking. But this could become a problem for you.
Important things to keep in mind:
The debit card's golden chip and the black magnetic strip on the back contain sensitive bank information.
Therefore, before discarding, cut these two parts into small pieces with scissors.
Scrape off the 16-digit number on the front of the card, the expiration date, and the CVV written on the back by using sandpaper or a knife.
This will prevent anyone from reading your confidential financial information and keep your old card safe.
Use scissors to carefully cut away the signature and barcode portion of the card's back.
This will leave no important parts of the card untouched and completely destroy your old card.
Avoid throwing old debit card pieces together in the trash.
Instead of throwing them in the same bag, throw them in separate trash cans or on different days.
This will prevent someone from joining the pieces together and using your card again.
