Central Railway Cancels 30 Train Services Until July 17 After Landslides; Check Your Journey Before Travelling

Passengers planning to travel on the Mumbai–Pune rail corridor are advised to verify their train schedules before leaving for the station, as Central Railway has temporarily cancelled 30 train services following landslides that damaged railway tracks in the Bhor Ghat section. The disruptions are expected to continue until July 17, while restoration work remains in progress.

Railway authorities have stated that the cancellations affect daily trains, scheduled services, and several special trains operating on the route.

Why Have the Trains Been Cancelled?

The disruption was triggered by heavy rainfall that caused multiple landslides between Karjat and Lonavala in the Bhor Ghat section. According to railway officials, the landslides damaged railway infrastructure at several locations, affecting train operations on one of the busiest rail corridors connecting Mumbai and Pune.

Most of the affected areas are located near Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill Cabin, where debris and unstable terrain have complicated restoration efforts.

Restoration Work Underway

Central Railway has deployed teams to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Officials said repair work is progressing on a war footing despite difficult weather conditions and challenging terrain. Transporting construction materials to certain locations continues to be a major challenge due to the hilly landscape and ongoing safety concerns.

Railway authorities have confirmed that one of the three railway lines has already been restored, while work continues on the remaining two tracks in coordination with the district administration and forest authorities.

Thirty Train Services Affected

According to Central Railway, a total of 30 train services have been cancelled during the disruption period.

The cancelled services include:

  • 14 daily trains.
  • Eight trains operating on specified dates.
  • Eight special train services.

Passengers scheduled to travel before July 17 should verify the latest operational status of their trains before commencing their journey.

Major Trains Cancelled

Among the trains affected by the temporary suspension are several well-known services, including:

  • Deccan Queen.
  • Deccan Express.
  • Mumbai–Pune Intercity Express.
  • CSMT–Hyderabad Express.
  • Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail.
  • Hubballi–Dadar Express.

Several trains operating on selected dates have also been cancelled, including services such as:

  • Mahalaxmi Express.
  • Jodhpur–Hadapsar Express.
  • Dadar–Satara Express.
  • Dadar–Sainagar Shirdi Express.

In addition, a number of special trains connecting Mumbai and Pune with cities such as Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City, and Hazrat Nizamuddin have also been temporarily withdrawn.

Additional Bus Services Announced

To reduce inconvenience for passengers affected by the rail disruptions, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced additional road transport services.

According to state authorities, around 200 extra bus trips will be operated daily on the Mumbai–Pune route beginning this weekend to accommodate passengers whose train services have been cancelled.

The additional buses are intended to provide an alternative mode of transport until railway operations return to normal.

Passengers Advised to Check Train Status

Railway officials have urged passengers not to rely solely on previously booked schedules.

Before travelling, passengers should:

  • Verify the latest train status.
  • Check cancellation or rescheduling updates.
  • Monitor official railway announcements.
  • Contact railway helpline services if required.

Real-time updates are also being shared through official railway communication channels and passenger information systems.

Final Take

Heavy monsoon rains and landslides in the Bhor Ghat section have significantly disrupted rail traffic on the Mumbai–Pune route, leading Central Railway to temporarily cancel 30 train services until July 17. While restoration work is progressing, passengers should confirm the operational status of their trains before travelling and consider alternative transportation where necessary. Authorities continue to work toward restoring all affected railway lines as quickly and safely as possible.
