The NIA Special Court in Hyderabad has convicted nine people, including eight Bangladeshi nationals, in a human trafficking and prostitution case.

Hyderabad NIA court's big decision

The NIA Special Court in Hyderabad has sentenced nine people accused of a human trafficking ring that lured women from Bangladesh to India under the pretext of promising jobs and good earnings and then forced them into prostitution to life imprisonment. Eight of the convicts are Bangladeshi nationals. The court also imposed a total fine of ₹137,000 on all the accused. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of simple imprisonment.

What is the matter

This case dates back to 2019. Telangana police received information that women were being forced into prostitution in a house in Jalpalli village, Hyderabad. In September 2019, police took action and rescued three Bangladeshi women from there. Additionally, another woman was rescued from a house in Mahimood Colony, Balapur.

Given the seriousness of the matter, the NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on October 12, 2019. During the investigation, the agency discovered that the accused operated an organized network to bring Bangladeshi women to India. They were lured with promises of good jobs and higher salaries in India. Once in India, they were allegedly forced into prostitution.

Charge sheet was filed against 12 accused

After the investigation revealed the accused's role, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 12 accused on October 17, 2020. Three of these accused were reported absconding. According to the NIA, the accused arrested in the case were apprehended from various areas of West Bengal and Telangana during 2019 and 2020. They were prosecuted in court under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

The court convicted Ruhul Amin Dhali, Mohammad Yusuf Khan alias Mohammad Imran, Bithi Begum alias Khadija Sheikh, Imamul Gazi alias Mohammad Rana Hussain, Mohammad Al Mamun, Sojib Sheikh, Suresh Kumar Das alias Sagar, Mohammad Abdullah Munshi alias Abdul Sarkar and Mohammad Ayub Sheikh and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

According to the NIA, this network lured Bangladeshi women to India under the pretext of promising them jobs and then subjected them to a cycle of exploitation. The court's decision was issued on September 17, 2026.
