Changes in the tech industry from October 1, 2026

The beginning of October is bringing some significant changes to the tech and digital world, which could directly impact users' wallets, mobile recharges, business messaging, and digital systems. Sending messages will become more expensive for companies, while data-free mobile recharge options will increase elsewhere. The beginning of October could also be crucial for home electronics buyers. Some companies are preparing to revise prices amid rising costs. So, let's explore what's changing starting October 1st.

Messaging costs will increase on WhatsApp Business.

Options will increase.

Under TRAI's new rules, telecom companies will be required to offer voice and SMS-only plans. These plans will not include mobile data. Companies offering plans with a validity period of 30 days or less must also offer a data-free option. These plans must be priced lower than the corresponding data-only plans. Furthermore, at least one plan must be renewable on the same date every month.

AC, TV and other appliances may become expensive.

Before the festive season begins, those purchasing home electronics may face price revisions. According to reports, some companies may increase AC prices by 5 to 8 percent due to rising costs. Some companies have reported a 2 to 3 percent increase in the prices of LED TVs and washing machines, while some TV companies are planning a 7 percent increase. Prices of refrigerators and other home appliances are also expected to rise by 3 to 4 percent.

New law related to banking records will be implemented.

The Bankers' Books Evidence Act, 2026, will come into effect on October 1st and replace the old 1891 law. The new law recognizes electronic, digital, virtual, and cloud-stored banking records. Records can be authenticated using manual, digital, or electronic signatures.

Google to test AI computing in space.

Google's Project Suncatcher will also be in the news starting October 1st. The company will test the potential of AI computing in space with its first test satellite. This prototype will feature four Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). Its goal isn't to build a data center in space, but rather to see how AI chips perform in space conditions.
