Apple Pay launched in India, supports Axis Bank's Visa and Mastercard

The 12-year wait for iPhone users is finally over. Apple Pay has arrived in India. Using Apple Pay, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users will now be able to make payments easily. Apple initially launched it with Axis Bank's Visa and Mastercard credit cards. This means that if you have an Axis Bank credit card, you can add it to Apple Wallet to make payments.

Currently, Apple Pay has a limited rollout in India. RuPay cards and UPI are not currently supported with Apple Pay.

Who will benefit?

Currently, Apple Pay's initial support is limited to Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. This means that if you have an Axis Bank RuPay card, you won't be able to add it to Apple Pay yet.

Additionally, major cards like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI were not supported at initial launch. Apple is working with these banks to expand support further.

How will payment be made through Apple Pay?

To use Apple Pay, you first need to add your credit card to Apple Wallet. After that, you can make a payment by simply taking your iPhone or Apple Watch to a payment terminal where contactless payments (NFC) are supported.

Payments can be authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, eliminating the need to pull out your card or share your card details with the merchant.

Why did Apple Pay arrive late in India?

Apple Pay has been around for quite some time, but its launch in India took some time. The company has now brought its payment service to India, driven by India's large iPhone user base and rapidly growing digital payments market.
