OpenAI introduced new AI agents called Dots at DevDay 2026, and the company also launched the GPT-6.1 Sol model. Learn what's special about these new AI agents and models from OpenAI.
OpenAI Always On Dots AI Agent
At DevDay 2026, OpenAI introduced AI agents that can continuously work on a user's goal. The company has named these agents Dots. They run on its cloud computers and can continue working in the background as needed. OpenAI also introduced the GPT-6.1 Sol model, which the company describes as offering near-flagship-level capabilities at a low cost.
What are OpenAI's Dots AI agents?
Dots are AI agents based on GPT-6 Astra. According to OpenAI, they can work around the clock toward a user-defined goal. Significantly, they can be connected to over 4,000 apps. They can understand user preferences based on feedback from connected apps and also conduct research in the background. Currently, Dots can only be granted read-only access to connected apps during research. Users can use their Dots through ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams.
The user will decide the work of the AI.
OpenAI has also incorporated user control into Dots. Users can set rules for which tasks the agent can perform. However, some sensitive tasks will always remain under user control, such as password changes. Dots will not automatically perform them. The company is also testing specialized Dots for enterprises. These include separate agents for specific tasks like purchasing and invoice processing. OpenAI is also working with Microsoft to integrate these agents with enterprise security and management systems through Agent 365.
GPT-6.1 Sol also launched
Along with Dots, OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol. According to the company, it is an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol and can deliver performance close to GPT-6 Astra in agentic coding, computer usage, and professional tasks. Its price is one-fifth that of GPT-6 Astra. Input costs for GPT-6.1 Sol are $2 per million tokens, and output costs $10 per million tokens. For GPT-6 Astra, these prices are $10 and $50.
What else changed in ChatGPT?
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Space for teams, where ChatGPT and Dots can collaborate on shared files and information. Developers can now create plugin extensions, interactive panels, and file viewers in ChatGPT. In addition to computer access to the Agents API, OpenAI also announced @ChatGPT integration in Slack and Teams, Sign in with ChatGPT in 16 partner tools, and an OpenAI Marketplace with 32 partners.
