8th Pay Commission meeting in Mumbai announced

The 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) has announced the dates for its next meeting in Mumbai. The commission, headed by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is touring cities across the country to meet with stakeholders to discuss their demands and ground-level problems to help prepare a report. In this regard, employee organizations are now gathering in Mumbai.

When will the meeting be held in Mumbai?

The Commission will hold a two-day meeting with representatives of central government employees' organizations, institutions, associations, and unions in Mumbai on October 22nd and 23rd, after Dussehra. The Pay Commission has requested interested stakeholders to schedule an appointment by October 10th, 2026, to attend the meeting. It has also asked them to register their unique memo ID, which will be generated after submitting the memorandum through the official 8th CPC website. Prior to this, the Pay Commission is scheduled to meet with stakeholders in Bengaluru on October 7th and 8th.

Where did the meeting take place before this?

The Commission recently concluded its two-day meeting in Chandigarh, which began on September 18, 2026. During this meeting, various employee organizations and stakeholders from Chandigarh and surrounding areas presented their demands to the Commission. Following the meeting with the 8th CPC in Chandigarh, several stakeholders, including the Nurses Welfare Association (NWA) and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), met with the Commission and submitted their memorandum.

Main demands of employee unions?

• The biggest demand of employee unions is to increase the fitment factor to 3.833. If approved, this would result in a significant increase in basic salaries.
• The second demand of the unions is to increase the minimum basic salary in proportion to Rs 18,000 in the 7th Pay Commission in view of the rising inflation.
• The demand for restoration of the old pension scheme as well as revision of pensioner benefits is being raised prominently by pensioners and unions.
• Demands are also being raised continuously for improvement in Military Service Pay (MSP), House Rent Allowance (HRA), risk allowance, and upgradation of health facilities for military personnel.
