Why Kids Forget Overnight: You may have often noticed that children forget whatever they learn at night the next morning. This is because they have short-term memory.

Children's short-term memory
Children's minds are children's. Often, whatever they memorize at night, they don't remember the next morning. Whether it's a promise made to them the night before or a memorized homework assignment, most things are gone by the time they arrive at school. But have you ever wondered why this happens?
In fact, the part of a child's brain that stores memory isn't fully developed. So, let's explore ways you can improve your child's memory and recall.
Not getting enough sleep:
Good sleep helps the brain retain what it learned. During a good night's sleep, the brain organizes and consolidates what it learned during the day. This is called memory consolidation. On the other hand, if a child goes to bed late or doesn't get enough sleep, they may quickly forget what they learned.
Using mobile phone after studying
Watching mobile phones, watching TV, or playing games immediately after studying can distract the mind and can weaken what was learned. Therefore, avoid giving children mobile phones or allowing them to play games immediately after studying. You can allow them to do so after some time.
Stress or anxiety
Due to fear of examination or excessive stress, the child is not able to remember even the things he has learnt on time, because as we all know, the fear of examination is very much inside the children, and then that fear comes out in the form of stress, due to which the children often forget even what they have studied.
Not studying again
If a child leaves it after reading it once and does not repeat it again, he may forget what he has read quickly, because to remember it, it is important for the child to understand the subject.
How to improve the memory of a child?
- Make your child develop the habit of reading with understanding.
- Revise a little bit every day.
- Allow yourself to get 8–10 hours of good sleep.
- Give short breaks in between studies.
- After studying, keep some time away from your mobile.
Is this a matter of concern?
It's normal to occasionally forget what you read in the morning. However, if your child repeatedly forgets many things or even loses memory of everyday tasks, it's wise to consult a doctor. Also, try not to scare or threaten your child, as this can have a negative impact on their brain.
