Located in the Chamoli district of the Garhwal Himalayas, this beautiful valley is adorned with colorful flowers as the monsoons arrive. Spanning approximately 87 square kilometers, the valley lies at an altitude of over 3,600 meters and is considered part of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.

The Valley of Flowers' most notable attraction is the annual blooming of rare flowers. As the rains begin, the valley is filled with pink, purple, blue, white, and yellow flowers. The Himalayan blue poppy, Brahma Kamal, cobra lily, and several medicinal plant species are also found here.

If you're looking for the right time to visit, August is considered the best month. The snowmelt in June brings lush greenery, flowers begin to bloom in July, and by August, the valley is at its most beautiful. September sees the flowers begin to fade, but the mountain views remain spectacular.

This valley is known not only for its flowers but also for its rare wildlife. Red foxes, blue sheep, Himalayan musk deer, and sometimes even the rare snow leopard can be seen here. However, these animals are not always easily spotted.

Visitors here experience not a luxury trip, but a close-knit experience of nature. Flower-filled meadows, clear flowing streams, and the serenity of the Himalayas make this place special. Interestingly, in 1931, a British mountaineer brought this valley to global attention.

The trek is considered moderately difficult. The journey begins in Pulna village, near Govindghat. From there, you can trek approximately 9 kilometers to Ghangaria, and then the next day, you can trek 4 kilometers to the Valley of Flowers. The entire journey usually takes 3 to 4 days.

There are a few important things to keep in mind before embarking on the trek. A permit is mandatory to enter the valley, and overnight stays or camping are not permitted. Trekkers must return to Ghangaria by 5 p.m. The trails can be slippery during the monsoon, so it's best to bring sturdy shoes and trekking poles.
