Fresh Western Disturbance Brings Rain Relief; Storm Warning Issued for Rajasthan and Several Other States

A fresh western disturbance has triggered a significant shift in weather conditions across large parts of India, bringing rainfall, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures to several regions. The changing weather pattern has provided relief from the intense summer heat that gripped many states over the past few weeks.

According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), multiple northern and northwestern states are expected to witness rainfall, strong winds, lightning, and isolated storm activity over the coming days. Authorities have issued weather alerts for several states, including Rajasthan, where thunderstorms and moderate to heavy showers are likely to affect many districts.

Weather System Changes Conditions Across Northern India

The newly active western disturbance has increased moisture and instability in the atmosphere, leading to widespread cloud formation and precipitation across parts of northern India. As a result, temperatures have dropped in many locations, offering residents a welcome break from scorching daytime conditions.

Meteorologists expect the impact of this weather system to continue for several days, especially across the Himalayan region and adjoining plains. Rain-bearing clouds associated with the disturbance are expected to remain active, increasing the chances of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in Mountain States

Weather officials have predicted widespread rainfall activity between June 18 and June 22 in several northern hill states. Regions including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds.

Some higher-altitude areas could also witness hailstorms during this period. Travelers and local residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable areas prone to landslides or sudden weather changes.

Alert for Plains: Strong Winds and Lightning Risk

Apart from the hill states, several northern plains are also expected to experience unstable weather conditions. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to witness dust storms, lightning strikes, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 80 kilometers per hour.

Such weather events may temporarily affect transportation, visibility, and outdoor activities. Residents have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and follow updates issued by local authorities.

Monsoon Progress Faces Challenges in Some Regions

Weather experts have also expressed concerns about the possible influence of El Niño conditions on the ongoing monsoon season. The phenomenon could weaken rainfall activity in parts of the country and lead to uneven distribution of precipitation.

States that may face adverse monsoon impacts include Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. While some regions could receive below-normal rainfall, others may experience prolonged dry spells or delayed monsoon progress.

In contrast, areas currently under the influence of the western disturbance are likely to continue receiving rainfall in the short term.

Rajasthan Records Rainfall, More Districts Under Alert

Several parts of Rajasthan experienced light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity on Tuesday. The changing weather disrupted normal routines in some areas but also brought significant relief from extreme heat conditions.

Among the districts that recorded notable rainfall, Churu received approximately 29 mm of rain, while Sikar registered around 25 mm. Weather officials have now placed 23 districts in Rajasthan under a rain and thunderstorm alert.

The state capital Jaipur also witnessed increased cloud cover from early morning hours, indicating the possibility of further showers during the day. Residents in affected districts have been advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates.

Outlook for the Next Few Days

The active western disturbance is expected to keep weather conditions dynamic across northern India through the weekend. Rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and localized hailstorms may continue in several states, while temperatures are likely to remain below recent highs.

With changing weather patterns and the ongoing monsoon season, meteorologists recommend staying updated through official forecasts and taking necessary precautions during severe weather events.
